Rubio Heads to France to Address G7 Concerns on Iran War
Secretary of State Marco Rubio will meet with G7 allies in France to discuss U.S. strategies regarding the Iran conflict and rising oil prices.

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to travel to France this week in an effort to persuade the skeptical Group of Seven (G7) allies about the United States' strategy concerning the Iran war, which has contributed to a surge in global fuel prices, according to a statement from the State Department on Tuesday.
Rubio will participate in a G7 foreign ministers meeting near Versailles, scheduled for Friday. His agenda will focus on advancing critical U.S. interests and addressing shared security concerns, as well as opportunities for cooperation among the member nations.
Key topics during the meeting will include the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, and various global threats to peace and stability. This announcement comes amidst mixed reports regarding whether the U.S. and Iran are engaging in talks aimed at resolving the conflict.
President Donald Trump indicated on Monday that discussions had taken place between the U.S. and Iran, a claim that Iran has denied. Several countries are reportedly exploring options to de-escalate the situation, which has led to soaring oil prices due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to most shipping, including oil tankers.
Most G7 nations, including Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, have shown a lukewarm response to the U.S.-Israeli military operations against Iran, opting not to participate, which has drawn criticism from Trump. Despite this, he has asserted that the U.S. can manage without their assistance.
In recent days, Trump has expressed frustration toward several G7 members and NATO allies for their lack of support in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. However, some nations have recently indicated a potential willingness to support measures that would restore normal shipping operations in this vital waterway.
